New “CMF2” Surface Mount Common Mode Filter

Gowanda, NY (USA) – Gowanda Electronics announces the introduction of a new series of horizontal surface mount common mode filters. By utilizing a production method developed by Gowanda for its popular SMT45 surface mount toroid series, this new CMF2 series of filters delivers a cost-effective approach to noise reduction – thereby enhancing overall performance of the electronic system.

In bringing the CMF2 series to market, Gowanda is addressing the ongoing need for components to be more compact, lighter weight, and more cost-effective. This is especially important in hand-held, batter powered portable devices, but also applies to other applications where the trend is for smaller “footprints” AND higher performance.

Applications for the CMF2 filter include power supplies, power regulators, and DC to DC converters – especially in test & measurement equipment, medical diagnostic equipment, and industrial process control equipment. Other applications include use in security systems, instrumentation, bar code and laboratory analysis equipment.

This new filter series complements Gowanda’s extensive range of leading edge designs for RF and power applications, including its most recently introduced “Power Pod” surface mount inductor.

Key to the CMF2’s cost-effective performance is utilization of unique packaging technology – originally developed for the company’s SMT45 surface mount toroids. This packaging technology translates into lower cost processing and production, resulting in more cost-effective filters for the marketplace.

Gowanda also uses an industry-standard footprint with fixed, coplanar, “J” style terminals. This offers superior board mounting integrity.

These common mode filters are used to reduce AC interference. The opposing magnetic fluxes in the core serve to cancel in-phase noise signals appearing across the line. The filters can also be used for noise suppression in DC circuits.
